While our time sight-seeing on Mallorca was great, our hotel was rather disappointing.

Science of: Umbrella algae – 2cm of awesomeness

Many of the snorkelling locations we have been to around Salina have rocks covered with the small pale green umbrella algae called Acetabularia. While different species can be found all around the globe, the alga is usually green due to the plant pigment chlorophyll. Like the umbrellas on an overcrowded beach in summer, Acetabularia decorate rocks making them look very pretty underwater.

I’m going to start with a confession: the last thing I wrote was my thesis, but it won’t make it to this blog.

What I do want to post here are the travels and adventures I make, from hiking in the Swiss Alps to diving in Japan. I hope I won’t take long to post my next piece so do check back soon!
